2ND ANTIBODIES IN DISCOVERY & DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE – July 8 & 9, 2008, London, UK. This conference will assess the challenges and opportunities in the transformation of antibodies into successful therapeutic treatments. The program focuses on the business strategies and novel technologies currently in use to aid the advancement of antibodies through the drug development pipeline and ultimately delivering greater and better drugs to the market. THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH AND THE CANADIAN INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
RESEARCH 4TH ANNUAL SUMMER INSTITUTE IN MATERNAL-FETAL PHARMACOLOGY - July
18-24, 2008, Doubletree Hotel, Burlington, Vermont. The National
Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the Office of
Research on Women's Health (ORWH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
and the Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) at the
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) are pleased to announce their 4th
annual Summer Institute in Maternal-Fetal Pharmacology. The Institute provides
training for clinical and non-clinical scientists who are considering academic
careers in studying therapeutics during pregnancy, the perinatal period, and
lactation. Presently, the pregnant mother and her unborn infant are rarely
included in therapeutic studies, leading to orphaning from the benefits of drug
therapy. The main objective of the Institute is to foster the development of a
critical mass of researchers in this neglected area.
Course Methods: Up to 20 applicants will be selected and
mentored by leading faculty from American and Canadian UniversitiNational
Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHDes. The course format
will encourage small-group interactions and problem-based learning. The course
includes preparatory work and assignments, which will be sent to participants
one month ahead of time. Each participant will be expected to develop a
preclinical or clinical drug therapy protocol before the course. These
protocols will be discussed in small groups of approximately 7 trainees and 2
or 3 faculty members, and subsequently by the larger (plenary) group.
Participants will also be encouraged to bring their own protocol in development
for a "Protocol Clinic" with a faculty member who has expertise and interest in
the relevant research area. The Summer Institute will combine interactive and
hands-on learning with expert lectures. Special focus will be given to
interaction between faculty members and participants. Faculty members are
national and international leaders in various aspects of obstetric and
perinatal pharmacology.
Eligibility and How to Apply: Applicants must be actively
engaged in research or enrolled in a formal research training program, or hold
a PhD or a health professional degree (or equivalent). The health professional
degree must be in a field such as medicine, pharmacy, nursing, pharmacology or
toxicology. For more information on the 4th annual NICHD-IHDCYH Summer
Institute in Maternal-Fetal Pharmacology, please consult the
guidelines for eligibility and the instructions for submitting your application.
The deadline for submission of applications is April 1, 2008. DHHS and NIH are

BIOINFORMATICS PLATFORM APPLIED COMPUTATIONAL GENOMICS COURSE - July 24 – 30, 2008, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Join the Bioinformatics Platform Applied Computational Genomics Course (ACGC) for one week from July 24-30, 2008 at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.
The Bioinformatics Platform team designed the ACGC to empower bioinformatics/biology researchers and students by teaching a hands-on course that outlines tried-and-proven approaches, as well as new developments. This week long course will assist researchers and students to increase their efficiency in problem solving by introducing them to the tools and services of the Bioinformatics Platform.
After the course, attendees of the ACGC will have FREE internet access to all the Bioinformatics Platform tools and databases used in this course.
For more information visit the website: http://www.gcbioinformatics.ca/training OR email Lisa Bicek, Bioinformatics Initiatives Project Manager at training@gcbioinformatics.ca (Subject: ACGC Inquiry).
